Less than an hours drive away from Sacramento is the Amador County wine region. Many of my friends have visited, and I’ve had extreme envy. A few months back when I was still living in SF, I saw a Travelzoo voucher for Renwood Winery in Amador County. Yay! The perfect little adventure for me and my boyfriend on one of our weekends together (distance relationship). We finally took advantage of the offer last week since it was nearing its expiration date.
I can proudly say that Renwood Winery is one of my new favorite places. It is gorgeous and the people were kind. I expected the place to be packed for the holiday weekend, but it wasn’t. Only a handful of other groups were present and we had a large section of the property to ourselves. Yes!
After enjoying our picnic lunch, we dove right into our tastings – the Taste of Renwood, King of Zin, Around the World, and Dessert, which is practically every wine that they have. I can’t say that any of them were bad, but there were a few that really stood out to us. In the end, we ended up purchasing a couple of bottles: a Barbera and Old Vine Zin. Our hostess Erin was absolutely wonderful. Not only did she know a lot about wine, but she was very personable and really added something special to the afternoon.
Here are some pictures from our lovely fall day of tasting:
Not even half of the flight!
Erin was kind enough to let us taste the reserve wines.
If you’re ever doing tasting in Amador, you should definitely put Renwood on your list. Here’s their address so you don’t get lost. 😉
