Greetings from Paris! It’s hard to believe I’ve been here for almost a week. I’d be a liar if I said this city didn’t have me under its spell. I haven’t even done all of the “touristy” stuff yet, but I fall a little bit more in love with Paris with every passing day.
This trip has definitely been more about being present than checking in. I just realized that I hyped up doing a bunch of social media posts before I left and I’ve only done a few since being here. It’s just so easy to get entranced with all that is Paris (and also, wi-fi is not the most reliable everywhere you go). Paris makes you a curious little devil. When you’re walking, you see another little street and wonder where it leads. My boyfriend and I actually did this today (to my suggestion), and ended up nearly a half mile away from the path Google Maps was guiding us. Oh well. More people watching to do. And while speaking of people watching, Parisians are damn stylish. Maybe that warrants a “duh,” but no matter their age, they are stylish without trying. It’s effortless, and only takes a handful of pieces to complete a look. I. LOVE. IT.
We’re staying in the most quaint little flat in Montmartre that we found on Airbnb and I seriously want to pack every little trinket in here and take it home because it’s SO CUTE! It’s also been wonderful having space. Rumor has it that the hotel rooms are so small here, and it’s been awesome to be able to take moments to ourselves to do what we need to do. 🙂 After a couple of days
of me dragging around the house, my boyfriend and I laughed over the fact that maybe we had our “no itinerary” plan all wrong. That maybe we should’ve planned more, packed better and learned more French. But, after having been here nearly seven days, it’s been wonderful just making it work. Many places and people we visit speak a little bit of English and if they don’t, the little bit of French and pronunciation I remember from high school gets us by. Vacation should be about relaxation. After all, it’s a break from your normal day to day. I’m proud to admit that I have slept more this past week than I think I have over the past three weeks. One part jet lag, two parts just because I can. You’re probably thinking, “WHAT?! You’re in France! Get out of the house.” Well, I’ll admit, after being laxed for the first half of the trip, we’re kicking it into high gear for the next half. And while we may have been taking it easy, there’s been no shortage of eating well around here.
On Monday, we catch a flight down to Nice where we’ll spend time there as well as Monaco until Thursday, then we’ll spend the last couple of days in Paris before taking off for home on Saturday. I really wonder what it’s going to be like for me when I get back home. I’ve already sworn I’m getting rid of half my closet. I’ll explain that in another blog post – I have a great reason! 😉
Ta Ta pour l’instant!
